I've been out-of-town since 7/10, but I'm back in Gentrificationland. Been here lately? The hood of funky dives, cool cafes and George-Therese Dickenson's crib (did I tell you that my landlord reports that she permanently joined a nudist's colony?) now looks like Lex in the 40's or anywhere on the Upper East Side. Sky-scrapery buildings and bourgeois restaurants, all are meant to cater to NYU trustfunders and H-wood celebs in their stretch limos. Will they re-name "The Bowery" something like "Cooper Alley"? And where exactly have all the Bowery Bums gone?

After lunch, the Homage will rendezvous outside No. 9, rue Git-le-Coeur for the installation, in collaboration with the management of the Relais Hotel du Vieux Paris, of a "plaque commemorative" to mark the historical site of
the old Beat Hotel. There will be a small drinks reception hosted by the hotel, souvenirs of Burroughs recounted by poet Nina Zivancevic, reminiscences by the Scottish artist and former Beat Hotel resident, Elliot
Rudie, and readings in the street, including the texts of Fred de Vries’ homage to Sinclair Beiles, Max Blagg's "Three Dollar Bill," and, in memoriam for Harold Norse, "Hydra Waterfront" by Neeli Cherkovski and a special tribute from his friend Eddie Woods.

Everyone still talks about the great show you did at JazzMouth Fest in 2007.

Billy collins did it last year and we all had a great time.

I'll be gong back for fifth year and Mose Allison and Bob Durough will also be there, two GREAT musicians.
