I am an environmental
geologist and very interested in the interactions of humans and the
river. Specifically, I am fascinated by people who continue to deny
the reality of regular flooding and continue to live in the path of
inundation. I would be happy to stroll the banks of the river and discuss
the beauty of floods and the importance of an open floodplain.
Dana Collins, a friend & co-worker (I teach at a community college
in Illinois), is an art instructor who has been painting and drawing
shore-scapes of the upper Mississippi for many years. She spends time
each summer in a boat and returns with beautiful works that have been
shown around the country.
