As a documentarist,
my work tends to focus entirely on the large picture as told by people:
their oral accounts. The best work always seems to combine personal,
politics (social-edgist) and poetry (yea music). Off the top of my head,
it might be interesting to take a theme, like a dredging up of the river
gods and goddesses in artistic, ecological, social expression via an
event, or series of events. You will be getting ideas in response to
your call to action, that can be incorpse-orated, yes? There was a show
recently, "Ways of the Rivers", at the Fowler Museum/UCLA
about the art of the Niger Delta region. Some good commentary from NY
Times/Arts writer Holland Cotter (Nov. 7th) might give some parallels
and insights. Culture, dammit, where is it?
