When a sea captain dies, it is believed he goes to neither Heaven nor Hell. Instead, he goes either to Fiddler’s Green or Davy Jones’ Locker. Where a fellow died often determined his destination. If he died on land, which was preferable, he would be buried there and go to Fiddler’s Green. A kind of garden paradise. If he died at sea, he would be thrown overboard to his watery grave and dwell forever in Davy Jones’ Locker. A place not as unpleasant as Hell.
