of Night Wounded

La
ciudad
Ya está
cerca El silencio.
|
The
city
By now
silence is near. It comes with a slight gallop, erasing avenues' names.
The crooked night quiets. Bell and echo diminish until they become crickets.
Asphalt men chip away at expectation in corners.
Song imprisoned in a shadow.
Who talks about the light or the window, about
the man who hurls his future into a cistern? He leaves syllables of
skin on a chair, half his life in files.
He walks, discovers an angel stagnating, in
limbo. Before his fear the street folds back on itself, he breathes
it, completely deaf.
The city lingers at the door, filters in as far as nostalgia's
dirty teeth.

|
The
Musician
Collects a balcony on each string, the moon marks his forehead with
its kiss.
Now it's time to savor tunes, to wake the dirty-stockinged
girls. His guitar pronounces, slowly, mysteries. The night a white dove
springing from his mouth.
A tapping in his feet, the tremble of a cellophane-wrapped
love, dead wood. He moves from window to window until weariness seizes
him distracted. He fades with the star hiding from the sun.
|
La estrella
A Mario y Ana',
Destierran a Las hadas, a Los reyes.
|
The
star
for Mario and Ana',
the house on the moon
They demolish the house in that pursuit of ancient heroes. The logic
of the stars casts a shadow on their skin, they want to defy them one
by one, they count the unbridled sequin of their sky, pretend to know
nothing of eyelashes.
Some child-bone feet cross back and forth through
the room to the moon. A kiss lays down the bedsheet, the vigil.
They banish the fairies, the kings. No room
for any story other than a faintly still smile.
In the clock's spell, a cricket settles in
their throats.
|
El
borracho
No sabe cómo hablar ahora, cómo
|
The
Drunk
Staggers
in a cloud, in noisy laughter not his own; once it did inflate his throat.
He does not know how to speak now, how to avoid
the ant along his arm. Does not remember the old woman, the oath, the
insomniac rosary that she prays to a decayed image.
Here, among crowds and cigarettes, the night
takes root in the happiness of a lightbulb. Another number sleeps in
his pocket, some glass cadaver wheels in his memory.
The sun has been devoured, the blackness links
each muscle. He unhooks his head to tie it to the cable. Perhaps the
eternal word sprouts, dancing clumsily among drinks.
|
La sirena
Envuelta
|
The
siren
Enveloped
in light, becomes red. She arrived with an inhospitable sea, singing
the luck that dwells in her every bone. A squid around her ankle, she
walks leaving the stars in her wake.
A kiss slips from her, approaches the mouth
of a townsman. She laughs, shakes butterflies from her body. A pair
of eyes collides before the glass which traps the air, asphyxiates the
fire before it burns beneath the vault.
That brown skin before the mirror of her song,
astounded. The sailor let her loose among seashell lies. She perfumed
her ears with the salt of his saliva.
This medusa has curled their stories. Cast
nets around their veins, knotted the unfinished affairs of the owner
of this dive; returned to the moon, page from her logbook, accomplice
to her mouth's abundant color.
She casts her eye among the candles. Chooses.
Aims for the West. The compass that pierced her chest through made her
mother of men. Called her daughter of its tears.
|
El corazón
Revolver
|
The
heart
To agitate the body until deepest calm. Thus, the slow embroiders weight
onto his blinking.
Lips after lips. A skin that knows about sheets,
about the country formed by each warm kiss; about a dark tongue, an
ocean and where a back, my arm, remained.
The man's heart distracted beats in the seasickness,
sinking in darkness. The woman tears off a few tickets, her legs in
danger of forgetting so much night, so much anonymity between her breasts.
Unwilling to face the sun, the low blast that prepares a sarcophagus
in her flesh.
|
El
suicida
|
The
suicide
Fear covering his skeleton. A few lines, which do not exist, on his
hand. The mute eyelid. No witnesses. Only the fireflies which burst
against the scratchline of dawn.
He invents the bridge which will fling him
into the river and the stone weighs his shoulders down already. The
doctor wrote a prescription that wrinkles in the circles under his eyes.
Surely he will miss the coffee getting cold
in his mouth, the goodbye telegram; the lamp, the smell of tar.
He is an unkempt bird in flight. Prayer lulls
him in space. Who knows what darkness inhabits his gut, what guilt between
his fists beating against the wind, until his shadow paints his outline
on the street.
|
|
The
betrayal
The woman,
like a flower left out in the open, took the overcoat, surrendering
herself to the street, open confessional.
She sniffs the rocky lie of the walls far from
love, of the blanket, the heat between her fingers. She crosses the
plaza and the dog tooth moon extends the echo of her steps.
Her foreign hand with the note that sets her
insides aflame, final word that consumed her blood. Wounded testament
now her skin which will forget its path, black box within the temptation
of tears.
From far away the buildings blindly spider-scratch
the sky, while Ariadne rolls her thread into a ball until she reaches
the magic waters in a kiss.
|
El
soldado
El ojo atento, El o'do ensordecido
|
The
soldier
Alone on his watch while the scent of blood crosses through him. His
rough hands find no exit. His attentive eye, his ear deafened by the
mist of a street.
Maybe he remembers the blue contact with that
pliant flesh, the unknown breathing that suffocated under his boot.
The unseen life of the corpse filled with lime and no one has given
it a name.
A voice of rock hails him as hero in the trash,
among dogs that spy his hand's insanity.
His nerves rest in the heart of an old rag.
Truly he is so, so naked in the metallic contact of his soul.
|
La
tormenta
rescoldo salado perfora Las ventanas.
|
The
Storm
The city groans in the cloud's omen; awaits the streetlight's breath
at the obstinate stroke of night. A young woman's voice sings avalanche
to the marine city.
Lightning's thicket, like an unfinished weave,
scatters over the antennas along the street. Enchanted children are
birds groaning in flight. A salt-ash residue perforates the windows.
The furious wind flies, pulls flowers up from
the stone path, upholsters the drawbridge, destroys.
The city, aquatic devastation, nothing, swims
in the river of taciturn daydream.
|
El
hotel
|
The
Hotel
Appears like a cathedral in the center of the rust. Comets graze its
contour, thus splintering the ancestral secret of construction.
Accomplice to the fleeting lover, to the twins
lifted up to the roof. Spy with its singular locking gaze. Stairways
become labyrinth, passage to amorous alcoves.
Splintered in the ferocious swaying of mattresses,
noise that rips off the scab of silence.
Old man of the night your name a neon command.
Marble phantoms inhabit your corners.
|
El
escalador
|
The
Scaler
His shifty
language prophesied by the poorly-treated plants. Painstaking, he places
steps in the dirt and the wall is born, delicate insinuation towards
ascension.
Bug that adheres to warm houses. Thug of shadows
wrapped up in shadows. Fingers hiding objects in bags, trinkets that
come together for him, become his.
Magician of escapism. Disembowels the dreams
of sweet girls; to discover him is the most ardent scar of sleeplessness.
|
El
d'a
|
The
Day
This, I imagine, is morning.
The smell of animal, knife smothering its sob.
The man who sweeps away a wounded line of night. The building speechless
before the moon, the princess, leaves men alive, lying in wait for the
minute hand.
Someone buries dreams in their pillow, blood
dancing vertical anew.
The vampire sutures the purpose of his vigil;
flees the dawn while furnishing armor for his eyes.
Night's dead time clears in the murmur of graffiti
and traffic lights.
